More Bands...THE BUSQUITO'S (NL) - buksing swing band Four professional musicians from Haarlem and Amsterdam who’ve know each other for years got together and decided to go busking!Core of the band is violinist Jelle van Tongeren (Hot Club De Frank, Unza Unza Orkest*R) and saxophone player Tommy Tornado (JZZZZZP,Rude Rich & The Highnotes, Unza Unza Orkest*R, The Soulsnatchers). It immediately caught the attention of deejays like Keb Darge, Henry Storch, Andy Smith, Kenny Dope, Soul Rabbi and Paul Weller. Soon after, the second 7” record, with Dutch Soul singer Jimi Bell Martin, was released. In the early 70’s, with funky songs like ‘So Fine’ and ‘Moviestar’, Jimi stormed the charts and even held the #1 position in Latin America for weeks. During the past decades, he toured with people like Eric Burdon, Percy Sledge and Lou Rawls. In January, 2008 The Soul Snatchers’ first full album with mainly original compositions, named ‘Sniffin’ and Snatchin’ ‘, is released worldwide on the Social Beats record label. Japan will even be treated to a special Limited Edition of the album. The 12 short’n’spicy soul tracks with the Sixties Sound all over them result in an album with good old LP-length. So… no wonder ‘Sniffin’ and Snatchin’' will be available on nice crispy black vinyl!In August, 2009 The Soul Snatchers release their 3rd 7". Musical contentment is very clear on their new single. The Motown beat of the A-side “Good and Plenty” will move even the biggest sourpuss. With this new single the group brings a more stylish sixties sound and groove. The music is playful yet serious, captivating and inspiring. The rhythm section is tight but not forced, the horns play heavy and singer Cutis T. proves to be one of the best new Dutch soul singers! For more info check: www.myspace.com/soulsnatchers TOMMY TORNADO (NL) - reggae\ska saxophonist Thomas ‘Tommy Tornado’ Streutgers is perhaps the youngest saxophone star in the Netherlands.A saxophone player who is so closely connected with his instrument that – during the 28 years he is old – he has blown more air through his mouthpiece than he has exhaled normally !In 1997, Tommy Tornado won the Big Boss Jazz Award at just 17 years old and ever since then his star is rising With several bands he tours music stages throughout Europe.He plays in the ska / rocksteady / reggae formation Rude Rich & the Highnotes with which he toured and made records with legendary Jamaican artists such as Rico Rodiguez, Derrick Morgan, Alton Ellis, Dennis Alcapone, The Heptones, Ernest Ranglin, Winston Francis and U-Brown.Recently he brought over one of his biggest hero’s ‘King of the Honkers’ Big Jay McNeeley to Europe, who he invited to play with his jumpjazz formation Jzzzzzp, this resulted in much talked-about performances such as during the Haarlem Jazzfestival and on the television show Vrije Geluiden (VPRO). Currently, Tommy Tornado is playing with 4 different bands, including JZZZZZP, Rude Rich & The Highnotes, The Soulsnatchers and The Busquito’s. And now, finally, he has released his long- awaited solo record “Sunrise” on which Tommy is assisted by members of The Highnotes with guest performances of a.o. Rico Rodriguez, Ernest Ranglin and Winston Francis.It is a record with mainly reggae sounds on which Tommy proves that he is not only a great performing artist but also an excellent songwriter. This coming year Tommy Tornado will present his solo album to the audience on several stages and festivals in Europe.
